A birthday, a bird box and cow tax
It’s time for this week’s update of some of the news that has caught my eye in the past seven days.
- Happy 200th birthday to Charles Darwin, who’s anniversary was on 12 Feb. Here’s a quote from the great man:
“Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge: it is those who know little, not those who know much, who so positively assert that this or that problem will never be solved by science.”
- From Saturday, show the our feathered friends some love by providing a shelter for them in your garden, for next week is National Nest Box Week. Here’s my favourite sustainable bird abode.
- The government has announced the big green refurb, with all UK homes to be retrofitted with insulation by 2030 and financial incentives for low-carbon incentives.
- Meanwhile in Denmark, they are going to start taxing cow farts. We’ve mentioned before the carbon emissions associated with the beef and dairy industries, and though the poor mites can’t really help it, that methane is undoubtedly a problem.
