Any questions?
I had an amazing experience last night when I joined the audience for one of my favourite TV shows, Question Time. This week it was being filmed in Hackney, and the panel included Ken Clarke, Chris Huhne, John Denham and the Bishop of Rochester. It was certainly a lively debate with the current financial turmoil obviously looming large in the audience.
As we were guests of the show we weren’t allowed to ask any questions, but we did get an incredible behind the scenes view of how the show was put together. And it’s always slightly startling to walk into a room and find yourself face to face with Ken Clarke.
What really amazed me was how closely the show we watched was to the broadcast version – there were no retakes, no cuts, and the whole thing was filmed pretty much live. As always David Dimbleby proved himself to be a masterful chair of ceremonies, as well as being a very gracious host.
If you ever get a chance to be in the audience for a show like this I’d jump at the chance. It was an incredible opportunity to see some political big beasts up close and personal.
