I love public transport
Having only recently moved to London I am still getting used to the abundance of public transport. Out here in East India I was worried that my journey to work could be slow and irritating, but to my joy I find myself with the option of taking either bus, Overground, Underground, DLR and/or boat! My plan is to get a bike in the Summer and reduce my carbon footprint a bit more by using pedal power. But before then buses are my preferred method of travel.
Living in Hackney I was practically forced to give up my Underground addiction and start using those big red buses which, before now I have always been slightly apprehensive of. My apprehensions stem from a couple of bad experiences in Sheffield where the buses seem to stop at everyone elses front door but your own and end up in the deepest darkest outreaches of Yorkshire (for a fresher from Kent it can be daunting!).
Anyway back to my point about London buses, now it seems I love them, not only because they are so frequent but also so cheap (90p with an Oyster, can’t say fairer than that!). With the advantage that you can see out of the window you start to understand how London all fits together and really how close the underground stops are to each other! The nifty maps on each bus stop make it easy to find a route home wherever you are at any time of day – God bless the 24 hour bus!
I am sure this is old news for many City dwellers but for this new one the novelty of having all that London has to offer only a bus ride away certainly hasn’t worn off.
