Prince and the Two Ronnies

Louise got us tickets to see Britpop survivors The Stereophonics play a very intimate gig last night at The Hospital club in Covent Garden. A surprisingly good time was had by all, with Kelly and co rocking through a set of hits and new songs. My attention did begin to wander however when midway through their set I realised that I was standing next to some quite interesting chaps. Three things dawned on me in quick succession:

1. The older looking guy with an eye for the ladies was none other than Ronnie Wood of the Rolling Stones;
2. The small Asian guy in the bomber jacket was actually Prince Naseem Hamed;
3. The taller guy with the rather nice silk scarf was world snooker champion Ronnie O’Sullivan.

This made concentrating on “Maybe Tomorrow” slightly difficult, and things only improved when Ronnie got up on stage to join the band on a rousing rendition of “Don’t Let Me Down.”

Later in the bar, Louise looked over my shoulder and said “Hey – there’s that guy we saw in the phonebooth!” – which left me very confused as we hadn’t seen anyone in any phonebooths. Then I realised that she meant “the guy we’d seen in “Phonebooth”" – it was Colin Farrell!

Still slightly disappointed that Natalie Portman and Scarlet Johansson (in town for the “Other Boleyn Girl” premiere) didn’t show, but you can’t win ‘em all…
