Seventeen Events celebrate The Observer Ethical Awards 2010
Seventeen Events organised The Observer Ethical Awards in association with Ecover on June 10th 2010 at the Victoria & Albert museum. This is the fifth year that Seventeen Events have organised the event, which rewards individuals and organisations promoting ethical living. This year’s awards party was hailed as a spectacular success, and once again proved there need be no compromise on style and quality when it comes to sustainability.
The party took place in the elegant surroundings of the Dome at the V&A, which has recently been awarded Platinum status in the Green 500 awards for its commitment to cutting carbon emissions. Furniture was sourced from emerging ethical designers and the space was lit with low energy LED lighting. Actor Colin Firth and Lucy Siegle, The Observer’s ethical living correspondent, hosted the awards presentation. Organic Prosecco & cocktails flowed throughout the event and Seventeen toasted inspirational caterers Moving Venue for supplying a wholly British sourced menu.
Along with the 100% British menu, other sustainable measures introduced this year included the winners’ trophies made from sustainably sourced wood, low energy LED lighting throughout the venue, the use of eco taxi’s for VIPs to and from the venue and using locally sourced seasonal flowers for the decorative floral displays.
After the awards guests were thrilled with the distinctive ethical goody bag, bursting at the seams with an array of sustainably sourced food, beauty, fashion and household products.
Among the winners this year were Gordon Roddick who was awarded the Lifetime Achievement trophy, Britain’s first Green MP, Caroline Lucas, and young ethical entrepreneurs The Recyclists. An exclusive crowd turned out to celebrate with the winners including T4’s Rick Edwards, Jo Wood and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall.
